Philip & Catherine Colton started West Horsley Dairy in 1992 from their then home at Roundtree Cottages in the Surrey village of West Horsley. Both coming from farming backgrounds, their aim then as it remains today, was to deliver a higher quality of service and product than their competitors were providing.
Through adhering to the company ethos of ‘Delivering Excellence’ the company has grown from a local village dairy to a respected foodservice company, with a large modern fleet of over 35 refrigerated vehicles and over 75 employees. The business has developed and grown over the last 30 years through its reputation for high service levels and reliability. Philip & Catherine still run the business today and are supported by two generations of their family in the business.

We are proud to hold the BRC Global Standard – Storage and Distribution accreditation. This means as a customer you can be safe and sure in the knowledge that as a company, we are clearly focused on the following areas;
Best practice in handling storage and distribution of products and promotes continuous improvement in operating practices, reducing inefficiencies.
Reduced risks – the standard has a strong emphasis on Hazard and Risk Analysis enabling us to identify and manage potential product safety risks.
Legal requirements – commitment to the ‘due diligence’ concept and ensuring full traceability of all products.
Providing an extensive range of dairy products, we pride ourselves on being a flexible and bespoke foodservice supplier. To this extent, our customer base is as varied as the tailor made deliveries that we provide. Whatever your dairy requirements, we already operate as suppliers and providers to a number of different sectors, including but not limited to:
- Fine dining, restaurants, hotels, hotels suppliers and pubs supplier.
- Conference centres, business, industry leaders supplier.
- Local and small producers supplier.
- Artisan produce and fine foods supplier.
We have an extremely robust supply chain, all our vehicles are fully refrigerated, have satellite tracking, are serviced, and replaced regularly. So that we can trace their movements all our drivers, who are solely employees (no agency drivers are used), have mobile phones so we can communicate with them as necessary. All vehicle fridge temperatures are monitored and print outs of the vehicle temperature logs are available.
In addition to our BRC accreditation we hold the FORS Gold standard accreditation. The Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme (FORS) is a scheme started by Transport For London. It encourages sustainable best practice for road freight operators who deliver in, and service, London. FORS promotes safe working practices, legal compliance, and safety of road freight operations in London and has now been extended to the rest of the UK. We believe we are the only Foodservice company to hold the Gold level.
Our Sales Office is open from 7.30am until 6.30pm and is manned by an experienced team of sales operators. An answerphone service then operates so orders can be placed up to 11pm for next day delivery. Senior Managers mobile numbers are readily available for out of hours contact.
Local Sourcing
Philip & Catherine are dedicated to supporting British farming and to this end work with as many likeminded producers as possible. All the fresh milk and cream supplied by West Horsley Dairy comes from UK Farms.
We also work with many small food producers throughout the Southeast of England to provide a quality range of cheeses and yogurts to help you with your customers interest in local products.
Environmental Credentials
Part of this commitment to quality service is also to take our environmental commitments very seriously.
Where possible we backhaul from several of our smaller South of England producers where we are already delivering to customers in the area.
We have utilised Mitsibushi Canter Duonic Eco Hybrid delivery vehicles and are past winners of the Association of Catering Excellence- ACE Sustains Corporate Award for our work with these vehicles.

These awards were established to recognise the teams and companies that truly stand out in the foodservice sector as champions of sustainability.
Our current fleet of modern vehicles are all compliant with the Euro 6 Standard & Ultra Low Emission Zone in London. These are all supported by a full internal & external camera system to help with pedestrian & cyclist awareness along with delivery accuracy.
We recycle all cardboard and plastic packaging that comes into the business.

Environmental Credentials
Part of this commitment to quality service is also to take our environmental commitments very seriously. As well as backhauling from some of our smaller South of England producers we have taken delivery of our first Mitsibushi Canter Duonic Eco Hybrid delivery vehicle. The vehicle is a Diesel, Electric Hybrid and the fridge is cooled using revolutionary engineered frozen gel tube and plate technology rather than being cooled by the engine. We believe this is the cleanest food service hybrid lorry working in London using an expected 40% less fuel than conventional lorries and is the first of it’s type in the world using this combination of technology. In July 2015 we received the Association of Catering Excellence- ACE Sustains Corporate Award for our work with this vehicle. These awards were established to recognise the teams and companies that truly stand out in the foodservice sector as champions of sustainability. We now run 5 hybrid trucks in our fleet.
